Cornwall-bred musician Superlate who currently resides in Liverpool has unleashed his summer-ready record “Diamonds”, which features up-and-coming vocalist Immi Dash.
“Diamonds” is a chilled sun-drenched melodic song with urban rhythms that ring true to Superlate’s beachside roots and upbringing. One of Superlate’s inspirations is Daft Punk and he has encapsulated the classic energy of disco and French house to create this pop fuelled banger.
The 21-year-old producer is gradually building up a solid reputation of crafting records chock-full with soul, drums, and bass, where he mixes party culture with ear-warming pop. This has led to him to opportunities such as supporting mainstream acts such as Tom Walker in previous solo projects and “Diamonds” being awarded ‘Track of The Week’ on BBC Introducing Merseyside.
“Diamonds” is the first of many energy-filled records from Superlate scheduled for release this year.
Check out our interview with Superlate about his song “Diamonds” and listen to it below.
SUPERLATE: Lyrically, Diamonds focuses on the ‘tightrope’ feeling of uncertainty within a relationship. Often at a young age it’s easy to not know what you want in life and this applies very much to relationships too. Diamonds highlights the affects that uncertainty can have on two people and tells a story of someone who is afraid to share their feelings because they don’t understand them themselves.
INSPIRATION FOR “DIAMONDS”
SUPERLATE: I’m a huge lover of songs that make you move. The resurgence of disco influences in pop has been great to watch and in this case, the song all started from making an infectious drum beat. Often, melodies and lyrics can just ‘arrive’ fully formed and the hook line of ‘I throw away diamonds’ was a great example of that.
CREATIVE OF MAKING “DIAMONDS”
SUPERLATE: As with all songs, the production process is a long journey. There’s some great DIY elements in the song, one being the piano that was simply recorded on my iPhone as a voice memo! I had written the song in its entirety before I brought it to Immi, having seen her singing videos online I knew her ability was phenomenal and I swiftly enlisted her to sing the song.
FEELING OF “DIAMONDS”
SUPERLATE: I think Diamonds is a real one-size-fits-all tune, but for me it just encapsulates the feeling of a great summer with great blend of energy and relaxation all in one.
BEST OCCASION TO PLAY “DIAMONDS”
SUPERLATE: I’d say the best occasion is a sunny back garden party with some ice cold drinks.
FUTURE PROJECT THAT “DIAMONDS” WILL BE ON
SUPERLATE: Diamonds is the first song out of a stream of single releases under Superlate. Expect to see these releases coming from June onwards!
Press play and enjoy the Tune of The Week!
