John Jin Han is an up-and-coming Los Angeles-based indie-pop artist, who has released an awesome anthemic dream-pop single called “Find My Own Way” for your ears to cherish.
John Jin Han is a member of Isla Vista Worship who has often led praise and worship for them with his gentle soothing voice that connects with the soul.
His roots in contemporary worship music are evident in “Find My Own Way” because the song emits the spiritual feeling of raising your hands to the sky in order to gain the strength and peace of mind to pursue your purpose from God.
He also made a collaborative EP with Isla Vista Worship called Carried, which has racked up over 1.8m streams on Spotify alone.
Additionally, his first single “Out of Breath” which is an acoustic guitar-driven ode to stability, love, and calm has accumulated over 30k plays on Spotify as well, which is a genuine reflection of John Jin Han’s talent.
According to John Jin Han, due to the indie world being small, he found a talented group of musicians to help him create “Find My Own Way”.
The song was produced by Dani Lyra and engineered by David Cho from Beloved Studios. It also features drum percussions from Benja Schick, guitar strings from Asa Stern, and added vocals from Lexie Stimmell and Laity who all combined to give the song its dreamy feel that is reminiscent of 1975 vibes.
Check out our interview with John Jin Han about his song “Find My Own Way” and listen to it below.
ABOUT “FIND MY OWN WAY”
John Jin Han: The theme behind “Find My Own Way” is about feeling like I don’t belong in the music industry because it’s so new to me and also because I spend so much of my time doing school while a lot of my peers focus mainly on music.
INSPIRATION FOR “FIND MY OWN WAY”
John Jin Han: My friend Megan Mae, who is a great artist from the UK, released a project where she sings “We gently walk the paths that are lesser known.” That’s essentially what this song is about. How can I, as a grad student, do well in the music industry.
CREATIVE PROCESS OF MAKING “FIND MY OWN WAY”
John Jin Han: Sonically, the song is influenced by the 1975, COIN, and the Bleachers. We wanted the guitars and synths to sound super dancey and fun but also wanted the gang vocals to mirror Jack Antonoff’s anthems. The song is actually a double single that starts with a more ominous and chaotic intro, which represents experiencing anxiety and fear in a nightmare. The BPM speeds up and drops into the actual single, which represents waking up to a new day. So the vibe is feeling all the tension, fear, and nausea when you’re unsure of yourself, and when the hook of the song drops, you feel triumphant and confident that you can pave your own way, even in the midst of uncertainty.
FEELING OF “FIND MY OWN WAY”
John Jin Han: It makes me proud of my own journey as a musician and aspiring psychologist. I want it to be a triumphant anthem for other people!
BEST OCCASION TO PLAY “FIND MY OWN WAY”
John Jin Han: Roadtrips, working out, dance parties!
FUTURE PROJECT THAT “FIND MY OWN WAY” WILL BE ON
John Jin Han: The song is going to be a part of a longer record called Days of Youth. The album is about processing childhood and navigating young adulthood. It’s like a coming of age movie soundtrack.
