7 New Rap Songs To Enjoy This Week // 16.05.21

Halfway through May and the rap scene is showing no signs of slowing down. The early hours of Friday the 14th saw multiple big-name artists drop projects and singles. From J Cole to Nicki Minaj to 21 Savage, there was no shortage of quality this week. We’ve put together a list of 7 of the best new rap songs to drop this week, hope you can discover some new tracks to add to your playlists!

1. Nicki Minaj ft. Drake & Lil Wayne – Seeing Green

Nicki Minaj sent the hip hop world into a frenzy earlier this week after teasing on her Instagram that something on Friday. After going live on Instagram where she was joined by a few celebrities and answered fan questions, Nicki Minaj dropped her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty on Spotify complete with four new tracks including the first track on this list “Seeing Green”. The tracks see a highly anticipated collaboration between the famous Young Money trio. The three trade crazy bars over a high-energy, triumphant instrumental.

2. J. Cole – a p p l y i n g . pr e s s u r e

J Cole dropped his much-awaited project The Fall Off on Friday to critical acclaim with the fourth track being one of the most talked-about online. J Cole provides us with a confident, braggadocios display on this track, with full faith in his ability as a rapper. The instrumental, produced by Cole himself is a mellow boom bap beat that allows Cole to expertly ride the beat, dropping cold flows and clever bars. The track serves as a perfect example of how J Cole has refined his craft in recent years with The Fall Off being one of the year’s best projects so far.

3. Migos – Straightenin

On a big night for music, Migos did not disappoint, continuing their strong lead up to Culture 3 after the group dropped “Need It” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again last year. The eerie trap instrumental makes for a tension-filled vibe that is punctured by the fast-flowing verses from all 3 of the Migos as well as the catchy vocals on the hook courtesy of Quavo. The group seems to be coming back for their throne with the recent run of singles and features making Culture 3 one of the most anticipated albums of the year.

4. 21 Savage ft. Gunna & Young Thug – Emergency

21 Savage released a four-track soundtrack EP for the film Spiral: From the Book of Saw and with it came this ominous banger. The menacing instrumental fits in with the horror vibe as does 21’s mellow delivery. Gunna and Young Thug provide us with catchy verses and head-bopping hook making for a solid banger. The EP comes as 21’s first release of the year and doesn’t disappoint with the Atlanta-based rapper now at the height of his career.

5. KA$HDAMI – Dior

The New York-based artist has continued his strong run in 2021 as he dropped his latest track “Dior. The bubbly trap instrumental complete with skittering snares and cymbals, compliments KA$HDAMI’S flows and delivery, his cadence making his lyrics hit harder. The track comes after KA$HDAMI’S viral sensation “Look N The Mirror was released earlier this year. The 16-year-old artist is full of potential and this new track is a perfect display of his talent.

6. Deno ft. Unknown T – Medicine

From going viral on Instagram with videos of his singing to becoming one of the UK’s biggest young stars, the young South London singer has dropped his debut mixtape Boy Meets World. With it came the smooth “Medicine” featuring Unknown T. Deno brings the harmonic melodies on the hook and in the verses and Unknown T comes through with his signature flow and cadence, making for a very successful collaboration between the two artists.

7. Internet Money – His & Hers (feat. Don Toliver, Lil Uzi Vert & Gunna)

Three of hip hops biggest artists have come together on the Internet Money produced “His & Hers”. Don Toliver brings soothing melodies on the hook and his verse, making for a light-hearted, feel-good vibe, complimented further by Gunna and Lil Uzi’s idyllic vocals for their verses. Overall the track is perfect for the summer and due to become one of the year’s most hyped tracks.
